Luke Edwards BA(Hons)

Luke is a contemporary fingerstyle guitarist and Carmarthen guitar teacher, playing a wide range of music and styles on the instrument. Luke began his musical journey at the age of six. He quickly became infatuated with the instrument, spending countless hours practising and honing his skills. In his 18 years with the instrument Luke has played and performed at both county and national levels; performing on television, in musicals and spending several years in the National Youth Jazz Band of Wales. Luke has received many awards and qualifications for his playing, including the Ralph Davies award for the ‘Most Promising Young Jazz Musician’, and two grade 8 distinctions in guitar. Most recently Luke has completed his studies at leading European conservatoire Leeds College of Music, studying popular music performance. During his time there he trained in music tuition, and ran workshops with Leeds College of Music’s prestigious ‘Saturday Music School’. Luke is also currently working on a book of original arrangements of Welsh music for solo guitar, for major American publisher Mel Bay Publications.

Lessons

I offer private one-to-one guitar lessons based in Carmarthen.

Lessons are suitable for all abilities and ages, and are entirely bespoke focusing on your goals, and what you want to learn. I teach from beginner guitar lessons all the way up to diploma and degree standard.

I can use my many years of experience as a guitarist and musician to help you escape countless avoidable mistakes and hours of frustration, and make your learning as enjoyable and efficient as possible.

Having an experienced teacher can cut years off your learning time by enabling you to play the correct way from day one, making it the easiest way to learn guitar – alongside offering a more personal and rewarding experience.

I teach a wide array of musical styles including acoustic guitar, electric guitar, classical guitar, jazz guitar, celtic guitar, bluegrass guitar, and my speciality, fingerstyle guitar.

Lessons are perfect for new beginners, regardless of whether you just want to play a few of your favourite songs, or want to develop a deep knowledge and understanding of the instrument.

I am adept at teaching most styles and genres, and I specialise in fingerstyle guitar. I have a deep knowledge of acoustic music from guitarists such as Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, Clive Carroll and many more. I can also teach you specialised techniques such as right-hand tremolo; harp harmonics; finger independence; and have you sounding like an entire band in no time!

Safeguarding trained and holder of a DBS certificate. Experienced with teaching all ages from young children to reitrees. Everyone is welcome!

Video Call Lessons

Learn from the comfort of your own home! In addition to traditional face to face lessons I also offer video call lessons via Skype, Zoom, Whatsapp video call, or a platform of your own choice.

Video lessons function identically to in-person lessons, with material emailed over prior to the lesson and supplemental video material provided afterward to ensure that you always have something to work on.

I aim to add as much value to your lessons as possible:

All lessons are bespoke. I individually create your own course to best fit your needs and goals. Is there a particular song that you’ve always wanted to learn? I can arrange it in a format that suits your abilities and fits in with the techniques we’re currently working on. We can cover any style or aspect of music that you’d like.
Is there a technique you’ve always aspired to or struggled with? I will craft you bespoke exercises and workouts to help you nail it.
All lessons feature unlimited post-lesson support via WhatsApp or text. If you’ve got burning questions or are stuck on something specific in between lessons, you can send me a message or video and I’ll respond with feedback and guidance free of charge!

Being someone who isn’t particularly gifted in the musicality department I truly thought there was no hope for me and the guitar. It was only when I... asked a friend how they had gotten so good in a such a short amount of time did stumble on Luke! From the get go Luke was friendly, endearing, clear and easy going. His website said that... his approach to teaching was to ‘make your learning as enjoyable and efficient as possible.’ I can confidently say and without any hesitation that Luke has delivered on this promise and more! Cancellation Policy

Please note, I operate under a 24 hour cancellation policy.

Due to a high number of last minute lesson cancellations I now require at least 24 hours of notice to cancel a lesson booking. Last minute cancellations waste valuable time in my schedule that would otherwise be filled by another student, and cost me a significant amount in revenue per week.

There is also significant preparation put in prior to each lesson which is then wasted by such cancellations.

As a result, lessons cancelled with less than the required 24 hours of notice will incur the full fee of the wasted lesson.
